Lewis County embraces the talents and life experiences that older persons possess and can share with others. There are several areas in the community that have come to rely on the services of volunteers.

Presently has 125+ volunteers. Volunteer opportunities include telephone receptionist, host/hostess, meal deliverer, kitchen help, fundraising volunteer, craft instructor, computer instructor, public speaking, telephone outreach, board of directors member, clerical duties and more.

The Theresa Snaith Hospital Auxiliary provides a host of older volunteers who provide a wide range of volunteer services, including operating the gift shop, at the local hospital.

The agency provides food and clothing for individuals. Other household items are available as well as help with medications and utility bills. Volunteers provide general help at the pantry.

This agency operates the Senior Companion Program and the Foster Grandparent Program for Lewis County. The Lewis County Senior Citizens Center, Inc. serves as a volunteer workstation for the SCP. Senior Companions are assigned to frail elderly persons needing minimal assistance and/or companionship in their homes. The Companion works 20 hours per week, receiving a tax free stipend of $2.65 hr.
Foster Grandparents assist children in classrooms. The Lewis County Headstart Program utilizes Foster Grandparents.
For both of these programs, volunteers must be 60 years of age or older and meet income guidelines.
Victims Advocate Program

Provides services to victims of violent crime. This group is now working on a transitional housing project to provide housing for 6 months up to 2 years for victims of violent crimes and/or domestic violence. Voluntary Board members are needed as well as caring and compassionate persons who can assist with referrals and linkages of services for family security and stability.
