Youth Athletics

Bolstered by two athletic programs in their sixth decade of existence, youth sports is an integral part of this central WV County. The Lewis County Youth Basketball League, founded in 1951, features three different age categories for boys and girls. For youth ages 7 through 12 years of age, the hardwood program is one of the longest running youth sporting endeavors in the state. Close behind is the Lewis County Little League Baseball organization, which began in 1952. Today, the league boasts a minor league, youth leagues, and girls softball league. All the teams use four-field complex located in the county. Soccer, pee wee baseball, football, wrestling, and t-ball attract many other children each year.

Lewis County Park

A heated pool, lighted tennis courts, pavilions, and putt-putt golf course attract thousands of residents to the county park. It truly is one of the nicest community parks you can find.

Hunting and Fishing

Lewis County provides the outdoorsman with a great variety of hunting and fishing opportunities. Both Stonewall Jackson Lake and Stonecoal Lake are well known among fishermen for the trophy catches. Stonewall Lake offers angling opportunities for muskellunge, largemouth and smallmouth bass, walleye, crappie, channel catfish, as well as rainbow, golden and brown trout. WV State records for muskellunge, carp, rainbow and golden rainbow trout were caught there. The fishing at Stonewall Jackson Lake is especially good for largemouth bass.
